Track

Here are yet some more pictures of my runner child. This is just such a neat program for the kids ( what kid doesn't like to run? ).  Last night, I took my neighbor's child and another little girl, Zelma, with us.  I figured that since Zelma has shown some interest in running, I'd ask her mom if it would be ok if I took her.

The actual track was  being used by a Junior High track meet so the kids got to run in what they call "the trails."  It's actually a very small wooded area up on the hill within walking distance from the track.  It was a great experience for them.  I stayed at the end of the group just to make sure none of the kids ventured off and there were some other mom's back there too.  I was wearing my Garmin so the coach relied on me for distance.  The kids definitely got in a full mile!

track time

So, I signed Allyn up for a four week track class.  We Run San Antonio has a program called Kids Run San Antonio.  It's free for the time being and any kiddo can join.  The coach is one of the nicest, sweetest ladies in the world.  She is a teacher and is fantastic with these kids.

The first night the kids basically went over the rules and what the coach expects behavior wise.  Then the kids ran four laps ( one mile ), rested and ended with some sprint work.  I was super proud of Allyn because after her mile run, she wasn't even winded.  She knew to take the run at an easy pace. As for the sprint work, I had to explain to her exactly what that meant.....to go as fast as possible.

As the kids were with their coach, I was also able to to run the track.  I got in two miles running and then walked one more mile with a friend of mine.

birthday

So, February 20th, 1938 is my dad's birthday.

Allyn picked out the type of cake, lemon, and I made it.  My dad has never been fond of icing and we were never able to ice his cakes for him.  He's says he's gotten better with the whole "icing" thing, but I didn't want to take any chances here.

I had my mom make sure they were going to be home so that Allyn and I could surprise him on his birthday.  ( you see, we were at their house Saturday too and I know my dad was not expecting me to drive over there two days in a row ).  Needless to say, he was surprised to see us.  We walked in the house and I blurted out the song Happy Birthday as soon as stepped foot inside.

Happy 73rd Birthday Dad!!

Snow!

Ok, so finally it snowed here in San Antonio.  We did not get a whole bunch but enough to make the kiddos happy.  Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.
